One reason I decided on this particular mailbox is that it is not too big. Its going to be just right for our small bungalow house. Cutting & sanding done. The rose appliqué is done too (but at work).
I also tinkered around with perfecting the right choice of color for this mailbox. I wanted to be able to buy stuff readily available and not have to mix colors. I put my sample in each photo as a reference. You can see here my choice of stain being a red mahogany and an amber shellac, not the clear kind. This gives a perfect rustic warmth to the oak and mahogany stain. When ive built the box and done my stain and shellac and another coat of stain for more rustic look, i’ll finish it off with a couple coats of clear (spray probably).
